I’ve had ‘that chat’ with my son about chores for kids, as he wasn’t doing regular chores at home. He has always helped out on an ad hoc basis, but life is so much easier now with an agreed schedule. Much less to argue about when he hits those awkward teen years and dividing up chores gives us both more time for family activities.
Age appropriate chores are personal and household tasks for kids to take responsibility for that help the household run efficiently and spread the workload of running a home. While not an exclusive list, and perhaps not appropriate for all 12-13 year olds, this is the list of personal and family chores my son now takes care of (before he is allowed any ‘screen time’).
How about you? What chores for kids have you agreed? How has giving them age appropriate chores helped them to develop and helped you? I’d love to hear how you manage this issue.
