Single Parent Traveling With Kids – Tips from a Globe-Trotting Mum

Travel has been in my blood since I was very young, so being a single parent traveling with kids has been a great adventure.

I grew up on a little granite rock in the middle of the English Channel (Jersey) and our extended family were all ‘on the mainland’! So, going to see family always meant hopping onto a boat or a plane, and travel quickly became the norm for me.

My parents were both busy medical professionals in need of downtime, so we had at least one good family holiday each year. With 4 kids in tow, there was no budget for exotic locations, but boy did we have some amazing holidays. And then there were all the school trips!

Best Trip Ever!

That has to be the trip that I won when I was just 14. I entered a national competition to complete a project about conservation in India, and I was so excited when I won. Amazingly, my parents allowed me to travel to India and Nepal for a whole month without them (we did have chaperones!) And this was in 1978 – long before mobile phones had been invented. I was well and truly bitten by the travel bug right then and there.

Since that time, I’ve been fortunate enough to travel to 5 continents so far, travelling both for business and for pleasure. Sometimes I’ve travelled alone, sometimes with colleagues/friends/kids, so I’ve learned a few tips and tricks along the way.
